England with its winter chill and rainy days, creates the perfect atmosphere to curl up with a good mystery book. Today, I’m excited to share with you a collection of 16 mystery books for young readers that my son loves, all part of the Sherlock Holmes Retold for Children series.

The first time I heard about Sherlock Holmes was from my mum. She loved reading and she had a big library at my grandparents’ house. As a child, during the summer holiday, I always checked the library looking for books with interesting titles and one time I found a Conan Doyle book which sparked my interest: Sherlock Holmes and The Blue Diamond. This was the first Sherlock Holmes book I read.

Mistery Books For Young Readers | Sherlock Holmes Retold For Children

Two years ago, if I am not wrong, we were at a shop looking for books. My son was at the age where he was into Comic Books and short stories, but we wanted to encourage him to start reading bigger books. We found this set, a Sherlock Holmes collection, with lots of books that appeared to be not too short and not too big, so it was perfect for what he needed. This is how we bought Sherlock Holmes Retold for Children series.

In this collection there are 16 books. Each book has around 64 pages, the writing is bigger and every two pages there are one or two small drawings.  My son loves it, he read and re-read them lots of time and of course he has some favourite stories. He loves The Hound of the Baskervilles and Silver Blaze. Here is a list with all the titles in this series:

  1. A Study In Scarlet
  2. The Speckled Band
  3. The Reigate Squires
  4. The Red-Headed League
  5. The Blue Carbuncle
  6. The Valley Of Fear
  7. The Musgrave Ritual
  8. A Scandal in Bohemia
  9. The Sign of Four
  10. The Hound of the Baskervilles
  11. The Navy Treaty
  12. Silver Blaze
  13. The Final Problem
  14. The Empty House
